How it works
Connect Helo with a webhook
- 1
Register your connection
Choose Add connection → Helo in your workspace. Name the connection and declare whether open and click tracking is enabled for all connected channels.
- 2
Create the webhook in Helo
Copy the endpoint URL into Helo. Choose a channel scope, or leave it empty to collect events across all channels.
- 3
Subscribe and save the signing key
Enable message-accepted, email-delivered, email-bounced, recipient-complained, email-opened and link-clicked. Save the webhook signing key in MailVakt and confirm subscription coverage.
- 4
Verify and send real mail
Send a test webhook delivery from Helo. Tests verify setup without entering analytics. Send real email to start reporting. You can resume setup and replace the signing key from the connection card.
What the numbers mean
- Delivered means the recipient’s mail server accepted the message. It does not mean the message reached the inbox rather than the spam folder.
- Collection starts when you connect a provider. MailVakt does not backfill earlier sends.
- Opens and clicks depend on your provider’s tracking. Apple Mail privacy features and link scanners can inflate or hide them, so treat them as a trend, not a headcount.
- A message sent to several recipients can make some events ambiguous. MailVakt marks those rather than guessing which recipient an event belongs to.
- Detailed events are kept for 30 days. Daily totals are kept for 12 months.
- Outcomes wait for their accepted event before entering reporting. Incident conclusions are suppressed while outcomes are pending or subscription coverage is incomplete.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need a Helo API key?
- No. Manual webhook setup only needs the endpoint signing key. MailVakt stores it encrypted and uses it to verify deliveries.
- How are campaigns grouped?
- Set your configured campaign key in Helo metadata, for example metadata: { campaign: "Launch" }. MailVakt falls back to exact subject rules and then Unclassified. Helo string-array tags are not treated as key/value metadata. The accepted event fixes campaign assignment and send date.
- Which events count?
- message-accepted counts sends for its recipients. email-delivered and recipient-complained count the individual recipient. Only Permanent bounces count as hard bounces; other bounces are delays. email-opened and link-clicked record engagement. message-processed does not add another send.
- How do I disconnect Helo?
- Disconnect in MailVakt to stop ingestion and delete the stored signing key. Then disable or remove the webhook in Helo. Retained history expires normally.
- Is Helo analytics free?
- Yes. Helo connections are included in free campaign analytics. Collection starts at connection creation with no historical import.
Fix this from ChatGPT or Claude
MailVakt is an MCP server, so your assistant can run this check itself, read the findings and walk you through the DNS edit. Ask it:
“Check the domain I send from in Helo and explain any SPF, DKIM or DMARC problems.”
- Claude: Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector, then paste
https://mcp.mailvakt.com/mcp. - Cursor and other MCP clients: add the same address as an MCP server. Setup details.
Checks are free and need no account. Sign in only to collect DMARC reports for a domain.
